What is GATE Civil Engineering?
The full form of GATE is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The IISc Bangalore will conduct GATE 2024. It is an examination to test the understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. It is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technologies at Roorkee, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai (Madras) and Mumbai (Bombay) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
This examination is a gateway for admission into Masters Program like Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech) and direct PhD admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other institutes/universities across India and for jobs in Public Sector Companies. In other words, if a student cracks GATE s/he has a number of study & job opportunities in front of him/her. It opens the doorway to many public sector organizations (PSUs) and in the field of research. Age Criteria for GATE Civil Engineering CE:
Candidates from any age group can apply for the GATE CE exam. There is no age limit in GATE.
Nationality Criteria for GATE Civil Engineering CE:
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- Foreign candidates can also apply for the GATE exam but for them there are some other eligibility criteria and they need to fulfill the required requirements. A foreign candidate must have completed or in the final year or in the pre-final year of their bachelor's degree in engineering and technology or Must have completed or in the final year or in the pre-final year of their Post Graduate degree in any relevant science subject.

GATE Civil Engineering Cut Off 2024

The GATE cut-off is decided on the basis of the various factors such as marks obtained by the candidates, total number of available seats, total number of candidates appeared for the exam and much more. For the admission to the MTech, MSc and PhD courses offered at the participating universities and institutions cut-off marks are required. Those who qualify for the GATE exam will be able to participate in the counseling sessions for the admission into IITs, NITs and CFTIs.
Difference Between GATE Admission Cut Off Vs Gate Qualifying Cut-Off
Candidates get confused between the GATE admission cut-off and GATE qualifying cut-off. Here are a few points that will help candidates to differentiate between the two.
- GATE Admission Cutoff is Published by the institutes individually whereas GATE Qualifying Cutoff is Published by the organizing IIT which is IIT Kanpur this year.
- GATE Admission Cutoff is decided as per the number of applicants received, category of the candidate & seats available whereas GATE Qualifying Cutoff is decided as per the category they belong to, the performance of the candidates and previous cut off trends.
- GATE Admission Cutoff is Applicable for admission whereas GATE Qualifying Cutoff is not Applicable for admission.

- Each subject/paper is of total 100 marks. The General Aptitude (GA) section of 15 marks is common for all papers. Hence remaining 85 marks are for the respective subject/paper code.
- CE, CS and ME papers: Examination MAY be conducted in multiple sessions. However, a candidate is allowed to appear in only ONE specified / assigned session by the GATE Committee.
- The syllabus for each of the papers is given on GATE website: https://gate.iitk.ac.in as well as in the Appendix C of this Information Brochure. Making a choice of the appropriate paper in the GATE application is the responsibility of the candidate. Some guidelines in this respect are suggested below.
- Candidates are expected to appear in paper(s) appropriate to the discipline of their qualifying degree. However, candidates are free to choose any one or the allowed set of two papers of the GATE 2023 examination as per their admission or employment plan, while keeping in mind the eligibility criteria for the institutions in which they wish to seek admission/employment. For more details regarding the admission criteria in any particular institute, the candidate is advised to refer to the website of that institute.
- Candidates must familiarize themselves with the paper code as it is required both during application and examination. As the candidates are permitted to appear in ONE or UP TO TWO papers of the allowed combination of TWO papers (refer Table 4.3) of the GATE 2023, they should make their choice with due care.
- If a candidate makes more than one application for the same paper, he/she will be allowed to appear in any one session ONLY. One of the duplicate / triplicate applications will be considered and the remaining applications will be rejected without any refund of application fee.
GATE Civil Engineering Registration
A candidate must first register by providing Full Name (as per the valid photo ID, which candidate MUST bring in original while appearing for GATE Civil Engineering 2023 examination at the examination centre), a valid e-mail address, mobile number and by choosing a password. After due registration, GATE 2023 application must be filled and submitted ONLINE only.

GATE CE Admit Card 2024
GATE Civil Engineering admit card 2024 will be made available to download. Candidates could follow the steps mentioned below to download the GATE Hall Ticket 2024.
Step 1: Click the link GATE 2024 admit card.
Step 2: Enter your Registration Number and Password.
Step 3: Screen will show your name, photograph, signature and exam centre.
Step 4: Before downloading the GATE Admit Card, Candidates must verify the given information.
Step 5: To avoid discrepancies on the exam day, Candidates must print multiple copies of the admit card.
Step 6: you should immediately report the conducting authority, In case of any discrepancy,.
Step 7: Your GATE Hall Ticket will be displayed on the screen.
Step 8: Take the Printout of GATE Admit Card 2024.
Points Related To The GATE Civil Engineering CE Application Process 2024
- Prefixes such as Shri/Smt/Mr/Mrs/Dr/Prof/Capt/Maj/Lt/Col, etc. MUST NOT be used.
- Candidate Must check if all the details are correct or not. NO further changes can be made in the application form, Once you click on the "Submit button and Proceed to Payment" button.
- Candidate with Disability (PwD) / Dyslexic candidate has the option of availing scribe assistance during the GATE 2024 examination.
- For the GATE Application Form A passport size coloured photograph with white background (3.5 cm Width × 4.5 cm Height) is required.
- On an A4 sized white paper, Draw a rectangular box of size 2 cm × 7 cm (Height × Width) and sign with dark blue/black ink pen within this box. The signature should cover 70~80% of the box size. The file size should fall between 200 kB (maximum) or 10 kB (minimum).
- Once the candidate has filled the application form, candidates have to upload the scanned copy of the photograph (10 kB minimum) signature, and category certificate (if applicable) as per the exam authority.
