The full form of GATE is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The IISc Bangalore will conduct GATE 2024. It is an examination to test the understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. It is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technologies at Roorkee, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai (Madras) and Mumbai (Bombay) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
This examination is a gateway for admission into Masters Program like Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech) and direct PhD admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other institutes/universities across India and for jobs in Public Sector Companies. In other words, if a student cracks GATE s/he has a number of study & job opportunities in front of him/her. It opens the doorway to many public sector organizations (PSUs) and in the field of research. Some of the PSUs and research organizations like ONGC, NTPC, GAIL, HPCL, PGCIL, BHEL, BSNL, HPCL, NHPC, BARC, DRDO, etc.these organizations use GATE score for providing jobs.

The GATE exam score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate education programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Master of Architecture, Doctor of Philosophy) in Indian higher education institutes. GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. Candidates applying for the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2023 exam may choose from a total of 29 subject papers. Out of which One of the papers is Civil Engineering. The GATE cut-off is decided on the basis of the various factors such as marks obtained by the candidates, total number of available seats, total number of candidates appeared for the exam and much more. For the admission to the MTech, MSc and PhD courses offered at the participating universities and institutions cut-off marks are required. Those who qualify for the GATE exam will be able to participate in the counseling sessions for the admission into IITs, NITs and CFTIs.
