Why competitive exams need consistency over IQ?

IQ is one word we all have hear since our childhood. It is given extreme importance when it comes to define someone’s intelligence. And yeah it’s a right metric for doing so. All great chess players and scientisctis have had great IQ levels. You are born with it. Nothing you can do about it. So, why are we all even trying when people with high IQ levels can just simply walk all over us who have low or mid-range IQ levels. It’s a question worth asking.

Why fight for an exam which only has 300 odd seats and applications are close to a million?

Well, you should. And if you are wondering why when someone has an unfair advantage over you then you will have all your answers today.

The truth is a consistent person always wins in the end because having a high IQ can help but cannot comprise for all the parameters of success. The truth of the matter is we have created a blindspot for all the other parameters which contribute for excellence and success except high IQ. We need to look towards other co-factors which is consistency.

Why consistency?

Consistency matters because that’s the only way to surpass all odds against you. Practice and repitition is the mother of all learning. Even if Sachin Tendulkar was naturally good at cricket or had some extraordinary talent he still had to put regular hours in the net practice. Virat Kohli might be world’s No.1 batsman but he struggled in England due to the pitches and the duke ball. All Indian batsmen did and these are the guys chosen amongst the 100 million. But they overcame it only via practice.

Akshay Kumar wasn’t a trained actor who trained at National School of Drama but is now the master of comical acting in India. He achieved it because he wasn’t sitting ideal thinking he can only survive on action scenes.

How to crack competitive exams?

Many of you must have observed the most intelligent people in your class in XII Boards didn’t get the highest percentage but some other average guy did because he was consistent. An exam is a one-time shot but in practice you can fail endlessly with scope for improvement. No intelligence can prepare you for unpredictability and other things such coping with pressure on the exam day. But an experienced individual who actually put in hours solving papaers and questions would definitely be able to do it.

In the end, it won’t matter how much intelligence you have but the steps and actions you took to cross the finish line. So, be consistent and you will carve out a path for yourself. The most important thing is to rather have a strong belief in yourself.
