Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has announced the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) for various posts in the state government in the notification which was released on August 1, 2023. PET is a mandatory screening test for candidates who want to apply for any UPSSSC recruitment exam. PET will test the basic knowledge and skills of the candidates in general awareness, reasoning, mathematics, Hindi and English.
UPSSSC PET 2023- Registration has Started
UPSSSC PET exam is scheduled to be held in the month of October, 2023. The online application process for PET will start from August 1, 2023 and will end on August 25, 2023. The candidates who are interested and eligible can apply online through the official website of UPSSSC: http://upsssc.gov.in/
UPSSSC PET 2023 Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for the UPSSSC PET exam are as follows:
- The candidate must be a citizen of India and a domicile of Uttar Pradesh.
- The candidate must have passed class 10 or equivalent from a recognized board or institution.
- The candidate must be between 18 and 40 years of age as on July 1, 2023. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per government norms.
- The candidate must have a valid email ID and mobile number for registration and communication purposes.
The application fee for the UPSSSC PET exam is Rs. 160 for general and OBC candidates, Rs. 70 for SC and ST candidates, and Rs. 25 for PwD candidates. The fee can be paid online through net banking, debit card, credit card, or e-challan.

Steps to Apply for UPSSSC PET 2023
Candidates who want to apply for the UPSSSC PET exam need to follow these steps:
- Visit the official website of UPSSSC – upsssc.gov.in and click on the link for UPSSSC One Time Registration (OTR) module.
- Register yourself by providing your personal details, educational qualifications, category, domicile, etc. and upload your scanned photograph and signature.
- After completing the registration, you will receive a registration number and password on your registered mobile number and email id. Note them down for future reference.
- Login to your dashboard using your registration number and password and click on the link for UPSSSC PET application form.
- Fill in the required details such as exam center preferences, language options, etc. and verify your information.
- Pay the application fee online using debit card/credit card/net banking or offline using e-challan. The fee is Rs 185 for general/OBC (NCL) candidates, Rs 95 for SC/ST candidates and Rs 25 for PwD candidates.
- After paying the fee, print the confirmation page and keep it safely for future use.

UPSSSC PET 2023 Exam Pattern
The UPSSSC PET exam will be conducted in offline mode as a pen-and-paper test. The exam will consist of 100 objective-type questions carrying one mark each. The duration of the exam will be two hours. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. The syllabus and exam pattern of the PET are given below:
- General Awareness: 30 questions on current affairs, history, geography, polity, economy, culture, sports, awards, etc.
- Reasoning: 15 questions on analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetic reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.
- Mathematics: 15 questions on number system, simplification, decimals and fractions, ratio and proportion, percentage, profit and loss, discount, simple interest and compound interest, average, time and work, time and distance, mensuration etc.
- Hindi: 15 questions on vocabulary, grammar, usage of words etc.
- English: 15 questions on vocabulary, grammar, usage of words etc.
The candidates who qualify PET will be eligible to apply for various UPSSSC recruitment exams as per their educational qualification and preference. The PET score will be valid for one year from the date of declaration of result. The candidates can check their result and download their scorecard from the official website of UPSSSC after the exam.
