ANSWER KEYS and SOLUTIONS:

1) – B)2) – C)3) – D)4) – C)5) – A)6) – B)
7) – B)8) – A)9) – C)10) – A)

Solution 1: B)

Let the total work = 60 units (LCM of 12 and 15)

Amount of work done by A, B and C together in one day = 60/12 = 5 units

Amount of work done by A and B together in one day = 60/15 = 4 units

Amount of work done by C alone in one day = 5 – 4 = 1 unit

Amount of work done by B alone in one day = 1 × 1.50 = 1.5 units

Amount of work done by A alone in one day = 4 – 1.5 = 2.5 units

Time taken by A alone to complete the work = 60/2.5 = 24 days

Hence, option b.

Solution 2: C)

Let total amount of work = 100 units (LCM of 20, 100/3 and 50)

Amount of work completed by A and B in one day = 100/20 = 5 units

Amount of work completed by B and C in one day = 100/(100/3) = 3 units

Amount of work completed by C and A in one day = 100/50 = 2 units

Amount of work completed by A and B and C in one day = (5 + 3 + 2)/2 = 5 units

Desired time = (0.75 × 100)/5 = 75/5 = 15 days

Hence, option c.

Solution 3: D)

Let total amount of work = 100 units (LCM of 20/3, 20 and 25)

Efficiency of Priya = 100/(20/3) = 15 units per day

Efficiency of Riya = 100/20 = 5 units per day

Efficiency of Supriya = 100/25 = 4 units per day

Amounts of work to be completed = 0.84 × 100 = 84 units

Desired time = 84/(15 + 5 + 4) = 3.5 days

Hence, option d.

Solution 4: C)

Let efficiency of Amit be 5 units/day.

Then, efficiency of Ayush = 3 units/day

So, total work = (5 + 3) × 7.5 = 60 units

Time taken by Amit working alone = 60/5 = 12 days

Time taken by Ayush = 60/3 = 20 days

Therefore, Amit takes 8 days less than Ayush to complete the whole work alone.

Hence, option c.

Solution 5: A)

Let total amount of work = 240 units (LCM of 80, 120 and 80)

Amount of work done by A and B together in one day = 240/80 = 3 units

Amount of work done by B and C together in one day = 240/120 = 2 units

Amount of work done by A and C together in one day = 240/80 = 3 units

Amount of work done by A, B and C together in one day = (3 + 2 + 3)/2 = 4 units

Amount of work to be done = 0.65 × 240 = 156 units

Desired time = 156/4 = 39 days

Hence, option a.

Solution 6: B)

Let, the total work be L.C.M of (18, 10, 6) = 90 units

Efficiency of Vikram = 90 units/18 days = 5 units/day

Efficiency of Vineet = 90 units/10 days = 9 units/day

Efficiency of Vikram, Vineet and Vinay = 90 units/6 days = 15 units/day

Therefore, efficiency of Vinay = 15 – (5 + 9) = 1 unit/day

Time taken by Vinay to complete the whole work alone = 90/1 = 90 days

Hence, option b.

Solution 7: B)

Let ‘x’ more men are hired.

So, according to question: (45 × 30)/0.60 = {(45 + x) × 10}/0.40

45 + x = 90, x = 45

So, 45 more men are required to be hired so as to complete the work on time

Hence, option b.

Solution 8: A)

Let total amount of work to done be 72 units (LCM of 12, 24 and 36)

Amount of work done by Ambani in one day = 72/12 = 6 units

Amount of work done by Birla in one day = 72/24 = 3 units

Amount of work done by Tata in one day = 72/36 = 2 units

Let the work is completed in x days

According to question,

6 × 4 + 3 × x + 2 × (x – 6) = 72

3x + 2x – 12 = 48

5x = 60

x = 12 days

Hence, option a.

Solution 9: C)

Total capacity = 450 units (L.C.M of 15, 18 & 10)

Efficiency of Pipe A = 450/15 = 30 units/hour

Efficiency of Pipe B = 450/18 = 25 units/hour

Efficiency of Pipe C = 450/-10 = – 45 units/hour

Capacity of tank filled by Pipe A in 5 hours = 30 × 5 = 150 units

Capacity of tank filled by Pipe C in 2 hours = 2 × -45 = -90 hours

Capacity of tank left for Pipe B = 450 – 150 – (-90) = 390 units

Time taken by Pipe B to fill the remaining tank = 390/25 = 15.6 hours

Total time taken = 5 + 2 + 15.6 = 22.6 hours

Hence, option c.

Solution 10: A)

Let the work be ‘w’ units.

Let the required time be ‘d’ days and efficiency of each men be ‘M’ units per day.

ATQ;

{(7 × 6 × 24 × M) ÷ w} = {(10 × 4 × d × M) ÷ 2w}

Or, d = 25.2

Therefore, they will take 25.2 days to finish the work.

Hence, option a.
