Success Story of Chaithanya C R| Cleared SBI JA

Chaithanya C R’s Success Story

My journey on banking preparation started at a time when I didn’t had any option other than to get a job as early as possible(because I had already wasted time on other competitive exam preparations). I started banking preparation from Aug 2020 after a frustrating lockdown period when everything seemed returning to normalcy. When I went through youtube for knowing what banking exam preparation is all about, everything was new to me. I was like an alien entered into planet earth. Slowly I started watching youtube videos on Quant, Reasoning and English. As I am from Engineering background, quant doesn’t seem that difficult to me. Reasoning was completely new to me, still I could alle to manage learning different kind of puzzles in 1-2 months. Considering English, I was not that weak. I didn’t had much Idea on grammar and all(Even today I don’t have). I wasted lot of time in learning grammar rules, which doesn’t come handy at any time in future. I wrote my first prelims in Dec 2021, which was IBPS clerk pre. I scored way less marks than cut off in that. There were no vacancies in RRB’s in our state last year. So next exams I applied are SBI PO and IBPS PO, both prelims I couldn’t attend due to some personal issues. I was completely shattered at that time. I started GA preparation that too without much concentration in 2021 beginning. 2021 beginning time was highly uncertain that I was thinking whether the decision I took in preparing for bank exams was wise or not. Later on time kept going. I was studying something daily, but without much focus and with no time table. In April, SBI JA 2021 notification came. It was kind of a relief for me to convince my parents that there are notifications on the way. I wrote SBI JA prelims on 10th July which went very well. Later on when results came, to my surprise, with high accuracy I had scored 83.75 marks. In between I wrote RRB PO pre and RRB clerk pre(vacancies are there this year). Cleared both, which actually boosted my confidence. I was reading GA regularly, with zero regular revision. Actually I have spent around 75% of my time in learning GA only which is the dumbest thing according to me. One shouldn’t do that. I studied affairs cloud pdf’s which are very heavy for the kind of person like me who hates to read theory subjects. I wrote RRB PO mains on 25th Sept. It didn’t go that well(Still cleared that). On Oct 1st, for SBI JA mains, I went like it is just another exam, which an average guy like me couldn’t dream of clearing. I was very average in every sections. I never expected English section to be this easy. English section was very easy to my surprise. Rest sections went average to me. I could attempt 103 questions in total. When I came out of exam hall and after hearing attempts of other people, I was very much hopeful in clearing this. On 15th Nov, I attended RRB PO interview, which didn’t go that well. I was frustrated of waiting for SBI JA results for so long. It was the only hope for me. I had very much doubt on the accuracy, so I was in a mixed feelings that whether I could clear it or not. Counted my marks many times before result. When results announced, my Roll Number was there in the list. Then checked my score, I had scored more than what I was expecting and cleared general cut off too(Even though my category is EWS). So, somewhat happy for now. (I gave good number of mocks for pre, But very less for mains. Giving mocks is more important than learning lot of concepts and things)

Section-wise Preparation Strategy

English Section Preparation Strategy

I think according to what I have observed, Reading with understanding the structure of the language is the crucial thing in getting good marks in English. A normal person with very average English can easily score good in English. No need to do research in Grammar and all. Banking just needs basic English, no need of English PhD.

Quantitative Aptitude Section Preparation Strategy

Just watching Youtube videos and Mocks.

Reasoning Section Preparation Strategy

Initially I had followed Ankush Lamba for puzzles(In youtube only). Later on I had followed Virtuos Youtube Channel for mains.

Reasoning free topic wise quizzes

General Awareness Section Preparation Strategy

Followed Affairs Cloud, which I feel is very heavy for a normal person. Questions are appearing in exams from Affairs Cloud, but they are very much deep. Scoring 50% marks in GA section itself is a difficult task. One can go for Affairs cloud weekly Q&A pdf if he/she feels other pdf as heavy. Multiple revisions are needed to remember things well. I think only one source, if followed rigorously is sufficient.

Watched Sachin Arora Sir’s youtube videos.

Overall Strategy, Study Schedule & Challenges Faced

Actually I didn’t follow a schedule. One shouldn’t prepare like how I prepared. Some states have high cut off in clerical exams. For clearing those, you would need a regular and schedule based preparation.

I wasn’t knowing how to read GA pdf’s. Asked many people in youtube comment sections and watched many videos only to know how to read it. Even after that, I didn’t get proper plan. Then I started reading Monthly pdf’s, which took lot of my time. I got frustrated in between on many days in reading these pdf’s. It is never ending if you go inside the loop of GA from Affairs cloud.

How did PracticeMock help you?

I gave more prelims mocks from Practice Mock. Yeah, obviously the quality of questions is very good. Mains mock I didn’t give much. Mains mocks too are highly recommendable. Overall, practice mock is a genuine and quality platform for mocks.

Message for the Fellow Aspirants

If you are thinking like you can’t clear certain exams, be it SBI PO, it’s just a myth. Everything is possible even without coaching. Understanding the level of questions that are asked recently or previous years and preparing accordingly will help you in clearing these exams. English is the game changing section many times, so make your English strong. If it is possible for an average person like me with very minimal effort, it is definitely possible for people who do 100x times dedicated preparation.
