SSC 2023 Steno Notification was released yesterday. Registrations for this exam started yesterday (August 3, 2023) and the last date to apply is August 23, 2023.
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Stenographer Grade C and D examination every year to recruit candidates for various ministries and departments of the central government. The exam consists of two stages: a computer-based test (CBT) and a skill test. In this article, we will provide you with the detailed syllabus of the SSC Steno exam, covering both stages.

The CBT is an objective type test that comprises 200 questions from three sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language and Comprehension. The total duration of the test is two hours, and each question carries one mark. There is also a negative marking of 0.33 marks for each wrong answer. The CBT is qualifying in nature, which means that the candidates have to score above the cut-off marks to be eligible for the skill test.

The skill test is a practical test that assesses the candidates’ stenography skills. The candidates have to transcribe a dictated passage in English or Hindi on a computer within a given time limit. The speed of dictation is 100 words per minute for Grade C and 80 words per minute for Grade D. The transcription time is 50 minutes for English and 65 minutes for Hindi for Grade C, and 40 minutes for English and 55 minutes for Hindi for Grade D. The skill test is qualifying in nature, which means that the candidates have to meet the accuracy standards to be selected for the final merit list.
