  • Para 11(C) of the said Notice of Examination with respect to negative marking is amended as under:-

There will be negative marking equal to one-third of the marks allotted to the question for each wrong answer in Computer Based Examination.There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Computer Based Examination.

SSC Stenographer Exam 2023: Everything You Need to Know

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the SSC Stenographer Exam every year to recruit candidates for the posts of Stenographer Grade C and Grade D in various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations of the Government of India. The SSC Stenographer Exam is a highly competitive exam that requires candidates to have skills in stenography as well as general knowledge and English language.

If you are interested in applying for the SSC Stenographer Exam 2023, here are some important details that you should know.

SSC Stenographer Notification 2023

The SSC Stenographer Notification 2023 has already been released on the official website of the commission (https://ssc.nic.in). The notification contains all the information regarding the SSC Stenographer Exam 2023, such as eligibility criteria, vacancy details, exam pattern, syllabus, application process, selection process, etc.

The candidates are advised to read the notification carefully and follow the instructions given by the commission. The notification also provides the link to apply online for the SSC Stenographer Exam 2023.

SSC Stenographer Application Dates 2023

The online application process for the SSC Stenographer Exam 2023 will start from 2nd August 2023 and will end on 23rd August 2023. The candidates will have to fill the online application form and pay the application fee before the last date. The application fee is Rs. 100 for general and OBC candidates and nil for SC/ST/PwD/ESM/women candidates.

The candidates will also have to upload their scanned photograph and signature as per the specifications given by the commission. The candidates can also make corrections in their application form from 24th August 2023 to 25th August 2023 by paying a correction fee.

SSC Stenographer Eligibility Criteria 2023

The eligibility criteria for the SSC Stenographer Exam 2023 are as follows:

  • Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, etc. with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • Age Limit: The candidate must be between 18 and 30 years of age as on 1st January 2023 for Stenographer Grade C and between 18 and 27 years of age as on 1st January 2023 for Stenographer Grade D. There is a relaxation in the upper age limit for reserved categories as per the government rules.
  • Educational Qualification: The candidate must have passed 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.
  • Skill Test: The candidate must have a certificate of stenography from a recognized institute or organization. The candidate must be able to transcribe at least 100 words per minute for Stenographer Grade C and at least 80 words per minute for Stenographer Grade D.

SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern and Syllabus 2023

The SSC Stenographer Exam consists of two stages: Computer Based Test (CBT) and Skill Test.

Computer Based Test (CBT)

The CBT is an objective type test that comprises three sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language and Comprehension. The total duration of the CBT is two hours. The total number of questions is 200 and the total marks are 200. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

General Awareness

This section tests the candidate’s general knowledge and awareness of current affairs. The topics covered in this section are:

English Language and Comprehension

This section tests the candidate’s understanding and knowledge of the English language. The topics covered in this section are:

  • Spot the error
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Synonyms and antonyms
  • Spelling/detecting misspelled words
  • Idioms and phrases
  • One word substitution
  • Improvement of sentences
  • Active/passive voice of verbs
  • Conversion into direct/indirect narration
  • Shuffling of sentence parts
  • Shuffling of sentences in a passage
  • Cloze passage
  • Comprehension passage

Skill Test

The skill test is a qualifying test that assesses the candidate’s stenography skills. The candidates who qualify the CBT are called for the skill test. The skill test is conducted on a computer. The candidates are given a dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi at the speed of 100 words per minute for Stenographer Grade C and 80 words per minute for Stenographer Grade D. The candidates have to transcribe the dictation on the computer within a given time limit.

SSC Stenographer Selection Process 2023

The SSC Stenographer Selection Process 2023 consists of the following steps:

  1. Online Application: The candidates have to fill the online application form and pay the application fee before the last date.
  2. Admit Card: The candidates who successfully apply for the exam will be issued admit cards to appear for the CBT. The admit cards will be available on the official website of the commission before the exam date.
  3. Computer Based Test: The candidates have to appear for the CBT as per the schedule and venue mentioned on their admit cards. The candidates have to score above the cut-off marks decided by the commission to qualify for the skill test.
  4. Skill Test: The candidates who qualify the CBT will be called for the skill test as per their preference of post and language. The candidates have to transcribe a given dictation on a computer within a given time limit. The candidates have to meet the accuracy and speed criteria to qualify the skill test.
  5. Document Verification: The candidates who qualify the skill test will be called for document verification. The candidates have to produce their original documents such as educational certificates, identity proof, category certificate, etc. for verification.
  6. Final Result: The final result of the SSC Stenographer Exam 2023 will be declared by the commission after document verification. The final result will be based on the performance of the candidates in the CBT and their preference of post. The final result will be available on the official website of the commission.
