Tier 1 qualifiers can take Tier 2. Tier 2 has changed a lot: it’s now objective, not descriptive. It has two sessions with different sections and modules. You need to know them well to ace the exam.

You’ve cleared the SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam. Congrats! You’re closer to your dream job. But don’t relax yet. The Tier 2 exam is tough. It’s a descriptive paper that checks your writing skills in English or Hindi. You need to write an essay (200-250 words) and a letter or application (150-200 words) on given topics. The paper is worth 100 marks and you need at least 33% to pass.

Here is the module wise-subjects that you need to cover to clear the Tier 2 exam:
Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Input/ Output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back- up devices, PORTs, Windows Explorer. Keyboard shortcuts.
Software: Windows Operating system including basics of Microsoft Office like MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint, etc.
Working with the Internet and e-mails: Web Browsing & Searching, Downloading & Uploading, Managing an E-mail Account, e-Banking
Basics of networking and cyber security: Networking devices and protocols, Network and information security threats (like hacking, virus, worms, Trojans, etc.), and preventive measures.
In this test, a candidate should have a data entry speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour. The duration of the Test is 15 minutes and an English document having about 2000-2200 strokes/key depressions is given to type.
The test will measure the speed of 15,000 key depressions per hour based on the accuracy of typing a given passage in English. The test will last for 15 minutes and each candidate will have to type about 3700-4000 key depressions on the computer.

Note: Key depressions in typing are how many times you tap the keys on your keyboard within a certain period. They show how fast and accurate you can type. Every word counts as five key depressions. For instance, if you type 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes, your typing speed is 2000/5 = 400 words per hour.
