SSC CHSL Detailed English Syllabus & Revision Tips

There are 14 days left for the SSC CHSL Tier I exam to take place. This is the right time to get started with your revision. SSC CHSL Syllabus for Tier 1

The Tier 1 exam is a computer-based test that consists of four sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. The English Comprehension section has 25 questions, each carrying 2 marks. There is a negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer. The total time allotted for the Tier 1 exam is 60 minutes.

The SSC CHSL syllabus in English for Tier 1 covers the following topics:

Grammar

This includes questions on fill in the blanks, spot the error, improvement of sentences and active/passive voice.

Vocabulary

This includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, spelling and fill in the blanks.

Comprehension

This includes questions on reading comprehension passages.

SSC CHSL Syllabus in English for Tier 2

The Tier 2 exam is also a computer-based test that consists of sessions, sections and modules. Module 1 of Section 2 of Session 1 has English Language and Comprehension subject. English Language and Comprehension paper has 40 questions, each carrying 3 marks. There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. The total time allotted for module 1 is 60 minutes (it also includes module 2 General Awareness section).

The SSC CHSL syllabus in English for Tier 2 covers the following topics:

Grammar

This includes questions on fill in the blanks, spot the error, improvement of sentences, active/passive voice and direct/indirect speech.

Vocabulary

This includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, spelling and fill in the blanks.
