Refer to NCERT books and previous year papers

The best source of preparation for Science in SSC CHSL is the NCERT books of class 9th and 10th. These books cover all the topics in detail and provide clear explanations and examples. They also help in building the conceptual clarity and foundation for the subject. Candidates should also refer to the previous year papers of SSC CHSL to get an idea of the type and level of questions asked in the exam. Solving previous year papers also helps in improving speed, accuracy and time management skills .

Revise important formulas and facts

Science is a subject that requires memorization of many formulas and facts. Candidates should revise these formulas and facts regularly and make short notes or flashcards for quick revision. Some of the important formulas and facts that candidates should remember are:

  • Physics: Speed = distance/time; Acceleration = change in velocity/time; Force = mass x acceleration; Work = force x displacement; Power = work/time; Energy = power x time; Gravitational force = G x (mass1 x mass2)/distance^2; Ohm’s law: Voltage = current x resistance; etc.
  • Chemistry: Atomic number = number of protons; Atomic mass = number of protons + number of neutrons; Valency = number of electrons lost or gained by an atom; Mole = 6.022 x 10^23 particles; Avogadro’s law: Equal volumes of gases at the same temperature and pressure contain equal number of molecules; etc.
  • Biology: Cell theory: All living organisms are composed of cells; Cell wall is present only in plant cells; Mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cell; DNA is the genetic material of the cell; Photosynthesis: 6CO2 + 6H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6O2; Respiration: C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O + energy; etc.
