SSC CGL 2023- Tier 2 Syllabus

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam every year to recruit candidates for various posts in the central government. The exam consists of four tiers, out of which Tier 2 is a computer-based test that assesses the candidates’ quantitative, English, statistics and general studies skills. The syllabus for Tier 2 is as follows:

Quantitative Abilities

This section covers topics such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, data interpretation and analysis. The questions are designed to test the candidates’ numerical and problem-solving abilities. The section has 100 questions, each carrying 2 marks, and a negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.

English Language and Comprehension

This section tests the candidates’ knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, phrases, comprehension and writing skills. The section has 200 questions, each carrying 1 mark, and a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Statistics

This section is only for candidates who have applied for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Statistical Investigator Grade-II. It covers topics such as collection and presentation of data, measures of central tendency and dispersion, probability theory, sampling theory, statistical inference, analysis of variance, correlation and regression, index numbers and time series analysis. The section has 100 questions, each carrying 2 marks, and a negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.

General Studies (Finance and Economics)

This section is only for candidates who have applied for the post of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO). It covers topics such as finance, accounting, economics and governance. The section has 100 questions, each carrying 2 marks, and a negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.
