Solution 1: 3)

Given, 4x³ + 8x² + 7x + 9 = 3x³ + 2x² – 5x + 1

Or, 4x³ – 3x³ + 8x² – 2x² + 7x + 5x + 9 – 1 = 0

Or, x³ + 6x² + 12x + 8 = 0

Since, (a + b) ³ = a³ + 3a²b + 3ab² + b³

Therefore, (x + 2) ³ = 0

Or, x = -2

Therefore, x + 2 = -2 + 2 = 0

Hence, option c.

Solution 2: 2)

The given figure is a cyclic quadrilateral,

So, (2x – 18^o) + (x + 60^o) = 180^o (since the opposite angles of a cyclic quadrilateral are supplementary)

Or, 3x + 42^o = 180^o

So, 3x = 180 – 42 = 138^o

So, x = 138 ÷ 3 = 46

Let the marked price of the article be Rs. 100x

Final price of the article after two successive discounts = (100x – 30) X (85/100) = Rs. (85x – 25.5)
