For most students, failing to get a rank is catastrophic, to say the least. Life is hard when you feel like a loser. Even though it’s only in your head and you haven’t yet come face to face with the real challenge. And when you’re headed to your exam, all of a sudden, a huddle of phantoms lunges at you making you gulp for air. If such is the case here is what you can do to kick all those ghosts, get yourself together and calmly go through any exam.
A lot of fear is caused by negative self-talk. Our inner narrative pretty much shapes the way we perceive ourselves and the world at large. Make a resolve to use a positive inner narrative in any situation. For example, replace thoughts like “I botched it all up. I am a jerk.”, with “Mistakes and failures are an essential part of progress. It’s proof that I am trying.”
Do breathing exercises and yoga daily to calm your mind and reduce anxiety. Somatic work not only heals the inner core, but it also puts you into the right frame of mind.
Take some time out of your busy schedule and daily humdrum. Find a quiet place in nature and visualize your success. See yourself as an achiever. Do it over and over again.
The most successful people in the world were flawed and made mistakes. Plenty of them. It’s just that we are only aware of their success and never came to know about their insecurities and the process that got them there. Cut some slack guys. Honour your efforts. Honour how you’ve been trying. You deserve that.
Mock tests are specially designed to give the candidates a hands-on experience of the exam. Regular practice greatly improves the candidate’s ability to deal with anxiety and removes any fear or anxiety altogether.
Learn to manage your time. Keep a stopwatch, and practice mock tests. Making routines and study plans is not enough. They also need follow-ups, don’t they?
Take short breaks during the exam to relax your mind and body. Use the break to take deep breaths, stretch, take a short walk, or drink water. Break the monotony.
Listening to soothing music can help to calm your mind and reduce anxiety. Choose music that you find relaxing and calming.
Anxiety is your body’s response to certain challenges and exam anxiety is common. When you take it as a normal response of your body, you would easily segue to calm.
Fear & Anxiety during exams is a normal phenomenon.
