SBI PO 2022 Exam Pattern and Selection Process

SBI PO exam will be conducted to recruit Probationary Officers for various branches of the State Bank of India across India. As always, the candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their performances in all 3 stages of the SBI PO Exam: Prelims, Main exam, and Group Discussion & Personal Interview. The SBI syllabus and exam pattern for Prelims and Mains is different from each other.

SBI PO 2022 Selection Process

The SBI PO Selection Procedure involves 3 phases: 

  1. Prelims
  2. Main
  3. Interview

Each round holds equal importance and hence qualification in each round is important to enter into the next subsequent round until final selection.

Stage 1: SBI PO Prelims

  1. The SBI PO Prelims Exam is the first round or phase of the exam and is an online objective test of 1 hour.
  2. The Exam consists of 3 sections: English Language, Reasoning Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude.
  3. There is no sectional cut-off in the SBI PO Prelims Exam. However, there will be an overall cut off set by the bank as per the category of the candidates.
  4. Candidates numbering 10 times the number of vacancies (approx.) in each category will be shortlisted for Main Examination from the top of the above merit list.

Stage 2: SBI PO Mains

  1. The candidates who clear the SBI PO Prelims exam will be eligible to appear for the SBI PO Mains Exam.
  2. The SBI PO Mains Exam comprises of Objective Test and Descriptive Test.
  3. The SBI PO Mains Exam is of 4 sections: English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning & Computers, and General/Economy/Banking Awareness. This exam is objective in nature.
  4. The descriptive test is of 50 marks and is conducted immediately after the objective test.
  5. Category-wise merit list will be drawn based on the aggregate marks scored in the Main Examination.
  6. There will be no sectional cut-off.
  7. Candidates numbering up to 3 times (approx.) of the category wise vacancies will be shortlisted for the Group Exercise & Interview from the top of the category wise merit list subject to a candidate scoring the minimum aggregate qualifying score

Stage 3: SBI PO Group Exercises & Interview

Psychometric Test- The Bank may conduct a Psychometric test for personality profiling of those candidates who will be shortlisted for Phase III. Finding of the test may be placed before the Interview panel for having a thorough perspective on the candidates. This is the last stage of the selection process. The candidates who have qualified for the SBI Mains Exam will be called to appear for the Interview and Group Exercise. This round is very important in terms of deciding the fate of the candidate concerning the final selection. The marks obtained in the SBI Mains and Interview are used for the final selection of the candidate as an SBI PO.

Things to keep in mind:

  • This will have 3 sections where each section will have to be completed in 20 Minutes.
  • The total marks of the SBI PO Prelims Exam are 100 Marks while the duration of the exam is 1 Hour.
  • One (1) mark is awarded for every correct answer.
  • There will be a penalty of 0.25 Marks for every incorrect answer marked by the candidate.
  • All the questions will be set bilingually i.e., in English and Hindi, except the English Language.

SBI PO Mains 2022 Exam

SBI PO Mains exam is divided into 2 sections: objective test and descriptive test. Both sections are conducted online. The objective test has a duration of 3 hours duration, and the descriptive test has to be completed in 30 minutes.

  • The objective test section includes topics such as Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis and Interpretation, General/Economy/ Banking Awareness, and English Language.
  • The candidate’s letter writing and essay writing skills are assessed in the descriptive test.
