B) Rs. 6,600

C) Rs. 6,480

D) Rs. 7,200

E) Rs. 6,120

ANSWER KEYS and SOLUTIONS:

1) – 2)2) – 1)3) – 4)4) – 1)5) – 5)6) – 3)
7) – 2)8) – 4)9) – 1)10) – 5)

Solution 1: 2)

Marked price of the article = 250 X 1.60 = Rs. 400

Selling price proposed by ‘A’ = 400 X 0.80 – 12 = 320 – 12 = Rs. 308

Selling price proposed by ‘B’ = 400 X 0.75 = Rs. 300

So, required difference = 308 – 300 = Rs. 8

Hence, option b.

Solution 2: 1)

Time taken by ‘A’ alone to complete the entire work = 18 ÷ 0.6 = 30 days

Time taken by ‘B’ alone to complete the entire work = 30 + 15 = 45 days

Let the total work = L.C.M of 30, 45 and 20 = 180 units

Then, efficiency of ‘B’ = (180/45) = 4 units/day

Combined efficiency of ‘B’ and ‘C’ = (180/20) = 9 units/day

So, efficiency of ‘C’ alone = 9 – 4 = 5 units/day

So, time taken by ‘C’ alone to complete the entire work = (180/5) = 36 days

Hence, option a.

Solution 3: 4)

Let the amount invested by ‘A’, initially = Rs. ‘Y’

Then, amount invested by ‘B’, initially = Rs. (Y + 200)

Let the annual profit share of ‘B’ = Rs. ‘K’

Then, annual profit share of ‘A’ = Rs. (K + 100)

According to the question,

K + K + 100 = 2900

Or, 2K + 100 = 2900

So, K = (2900 – 100) ÷ 2 = 1400

So, ratio of profit shares of ‘A’ and ‘B’ respectively = (1400 + 100):(1400) = 15:14

Also, ratio of profit shares of ‘A’ and ‘B’ respectively = (Y X 6 + Y X 1.5 X 6):{(Y + 200) X 12)}

So, {15Y:(12Y + 2400)} = (15:14)

Or, 210Y = 180Y + 36000

So, Y = 36000 ÷ 30 = 1200

Hence, option d.

Solution 4: 1)

Let the distance between city ‘A’ and ‘B’ be = ’10d’ km

According to the question,

{(10d X 0.40) ÷ (1.25 X 24)} + {(10d X 0.60) ÷ (0.75 X 24)} – (10d ÷ 24) = 1.5

Or, (4d/30) + (6d/18) – (10d/24) = 1.5

Or, (0.8d + 2d – 2.5d) ÷ 6 = 1.5

Or, 0.3d = 9

So, d = 9 ÷ 0.3 = 30

So, total distance travelled by Anand = 10 X 30 = 300 km

Hence, option a.

Solution 5: 5)

Area levelled by the roller in one revolutions = curved surface area of the roller = 2 X π X radius X length

= 2 X (22/7) X 7 X 15 = 660 m2

So, number of revolutions needs to level the area of the entire ground = 16500 ÷ 660 = 25

Hence, option e.

Solution 6: 3)

Let the quantity of acid in mixture ‘A’ = ’11y’ litres

Then, quantity of water in mixture ‘A’ = (4/11) X 11y = ‘4y’ litres

Let the quantity of water and acid in mixture ‘B’ be ‘x’ litres and (x + 30) litres, respectively.

So, x + x + 30 = 100

Or, 2x + 30 = 100

Or, x = (100 – 30) ÷ 2 = 35

So, quantity of water and acid in mixture ‘B’ is 35 litres and 65 litres, respectively.

According to the question,

(11y + 35 + 30) ÷ (11y + 35 + 30 + 4y + 35) = 0.7

Or, (11y + 65) = (15y + 100) X 0.7

Or, 11y + 65 = 10.5y + 75

Or, 0.5y = 5

So, y = 5 ÷ 0.5 = 10

So, quantity of water in mixture ‘A’ = 4 X 10 = 40 litres

Hence, option c.

Solution 7: 2)

Let the speed of the boat in still water = ‘8x’ km/h

Then, speed of the stream = 8x X 0.125 = ‘x’ km/h

So, upstream speed of the boat = 8x – x = ‘7x’ km/h

So, 7x = 77 ÷ (165 ÷ 60)

Or, 7x = 77 ÷ 27.5

Or, 7x = 28

Or, x = 28 ÷ 7 = 4

So, downstream speed of the boat = 8x + x = 9x = 9 X 4 = 36 km/h

So, time taken by the boat to travel 81 km downstream = 81 ÷ 36 = 2.25 hours = 2.25 X 60 = 135 minutes

Hence, option b.

Solution 8: 4)

Simple interest earned on investing Rs. ‘Y’ = (Y X 4 X 15 ÷ 100 = Rs. ‘0.6Y’

Simple interest earned on investing Rs. (Y – 500) = (Y – 500) X 4 X 16 ÷ 100 = Rs. ‘0.64Y – 320’

According to the question,

0.6Y = 0.64Y – 320 + 160

Or, 0.04Y = 160

So, Y = 160 ÷ 0.04 = 4000

Hence, option d.

Solution 9: 1)

Let the age of the husband at the time of marriage = ‘6y’ years

Then, age of the wife at the time of marriage = ‘7y’ years

According to the question,

(6y + 6) = (6y – 4) X 1.50

Or, 6y + 6 = 9y – 6

Or, y = 12 ÷ 3 = 4

So, age of wife at the time of marriage = 7 X 4 = 28 years

Hence, option a.

Solution 10: 5)

Amount spent by Mukesh on Rent = 25000 X 0.32 = Rs. 8,000

Remaining amount = (25000 – 8000) = Rs. 17,000

Amount saved by Mukesh per month = 17000 X (1 – 0.52) = 17000 X 0.48 = Rs. 8,160

Required amount = 8160 X 0.75 = Rs. 6,120

Hence, option e.
