Preparation Strategy

Unlike Phase I, Phase II requires a completely different preparation strategy. And the inclusion of a descriptive section has made the contrast starker. The time allowed in Phase II is substantially more than what was allowed in Phase I. And the reason is simple: You need to think, recall & arrange your thoughts and then answer the questions. Covering a wide range of topics is the need of the hour and for that, you need to go through the right notes which have been prepared keeping this exam in mind. Practicing Mocks is also important during your preparation as it helps you to keep a check on your progress.

Strategy for ESI (Economic & Social Issues)

  • Go through the previous years’ question papers to have a look at the type of questions that were asked. This will get you a good understanding of how deep you need to study in each of the topics of the syllabus.
  • For the preparation of the static part, which includes basic concepts of macroeconomics like unemployment, growth rate, gross domestic product and inflation etc. you need to go through NCERT books for economics for class X, XI & XII.
  • You can also read India Economy by Ramesh Singh for more details.
  • When it comes to the preparation of the dynamic part, which is current affairs based, you can check the Weekly Current Affairs PDF which we publish on a weekly basis.
