Tips to prepare for Quantitative Aptitude section

Now that you are aware of the topics that need to be covered, you would certainly be wondering how to prepare for this section. Well, you may follow the below-mentioned guidelines to prepare for the Quantitative Aptitude section for your Nainital Bank PO exam.

  • While answering any question pertaining to Data Interpretation, make sure you read and understand the requirement of the question. It can be suicidal if you simply start solving the questions as soon as you see the questions and data pertaining to it. The reason we are saying this is because on several occasion we have seen the questions gives too many data points which you may not even be required to calculate.
  • As far as questions on Data Sufficiency is concerned, make sure that you understand the statement well. Do not make the mistake of assuming any data of your own. The best way to tackle questions on this topic is by simply asking yourself whether the question can be solved on the basis of the information given in the statements. Since, these questions are not supposed to involve much calculations, in case you find yourself doing that, then there could be something that you may have missed out while reading the question.
  • Questions on Number Series is one topic where with little attention you can achieve 100% accuracy. Generally, in questions like this, you will be given a series of numbers which are interconnected. The moment you are able to crack the pattern, answering the questions will then merely take you a few seconds. Some of the patterns that you might encounter in the exam can be on prime numbers, square/cubes, geometric series, odd one out, cube roots and square roots, or even pattern in differences and alternate numbers.
  • For the remaining topics, you may refer to Quantitative Aptitude books by Arun Sharma or R S Aggarwal. Beside this, you should even refer to the previous year’s questions papers.
  • Remember, you have to be quick while answering as you need to answer 40 questions in 35 minutes, thus leaving you with less than a minute to answer each question. Also, presence of negative marking for every incorrect answer means that you have to be sure while answering any question. Hence, it is important that you quickly find questions that are relatively easy to solve than others and then solve then with cent percent accuracy.
  • Also, it is important that you always focus on solving one question at a time without thinking about the next or previous questions. Get yourself completely engrossed into the question at hand and in case you feel that it is taking longer than you had expected to solve then simply move to the next question.
  • We would also suggest you to spend at least two and half hour daily on preparing for Quantitative Aptitude. An hour and half for preparing and solving as many questions as possible, and one hour for taking mock test. The reason we are stressing on mock tests a lot is because it can provide you insights on your performance with regard to Time, Accuracy, Questions, Marks, Percentile and Rank. Further, these mock tests will help you compare your performance with that of an average scorer and the topper. The other perks of taking mock tests is to identify your weak areas so that you work more towards it in order to improve your performance
  • However, before you even jump into taking mock tests, we suggest you to ensure that your concept for the aforesaid topics should be cleared.

Finally, as we already mentioned, Quantitative Aptitude is one section where you can score with almost certainty and avoid any negative marks. However, the key to cracking this section is by solving hundreds of questions and taking mock tests. So, pull up your socks and start investing at least a couple of hours daily in preparing for this section.

Wishing you good luck with your preparation!
