NABARD Grade A 2021 exam: Reading comprehension is an integral part of the phase-1 syllabus. This year, there will be 30 questions in total. We expect at least 8-10 questions from passages; as you must know, RC preparation provides an opportunity to indirectly prepare for the entire English section. Tips and Tricks for NABARD’s RC  

Reverse Reading – It is a well-used method used by aspirants to make things in their favour. It’s a technique used to save time and keep the reading of the passage to the point. Reading any passage from the beginning and later looking at the questions will always make you consume much more time if compared with the reverse reading method. This is because when you chose to reverse read, you will read the passage from a different perspective altogether. You will be looking directly for the answers. However, you will have to read the passage back and forth if you read it conventionally, especially for NABARD’s RC, where the topics will be technical or syllabus oriented.   

Mark the keywords in the questions and memorise them

You can even be smart on how you chose to read the questions given. You can look for important keywords which are central to the question asked. Doing so will help you in many ways. You will become aware of the central theme of the passage; you will know what you are looking for.   

Make your priority to solve passages focused on ESI and ARD

There are high chances you will be asked RCs based on the ESI and ARD syllabus. For example – RC topics could be on women education in rural areas, the role of integrated farming is shaping the future of Indian farmers, issues pertaining to fisheries in India, etc.   

Work on your reading speed

Although you will be using reverse reading, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be working on your reading speed. The best way to increase the reading speed is by developing a daily reading habit of good length. It’s hard in the beginning, but gradually you will naturally start reading quickly. Read content digitally also as your examination will be conducted on desktops.   

Solve Mock Tests

The best way to know how well you can do at RCs is by gibing regular mock tests or mini mocks. This way, you are able to assess your performance in real-time with all the conditions that would be present on the examination day as well.   

Let go of generalized logic/knowledge while solving passages

Never answer the question based on your impulses or pre-conditioned knowledge. Instead, it is a must that you stick to the script of the passage. That way, you will not end up making wrong choices. And will save you from the disappointment of negative marking.   

Focus on certain elements while reading

Make a habit that you read anything from now on from the perspective of the reader’s point of view as well. Try to evaluate the theme, central issues being raised, implications being discussed, recommendations made, etc. That way, you will always comprehend passages in a much better way. Your reading will have a purpose, and you won’t be reading just for the sake of reading.
