World Milk Day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to make people aware of the importance of milk as a global food. It is observed on June 1 each year since 2001. The day intends to bring attention to activities that are connected with the dairy sector.
The day is celebrated to mark the sacrifice and contribution of the people who fought for the separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh. June 2 is the date when the new state was officially formed.
During the emergency special session on the question of Palestine, the General Assembly commenced the Innocent Children Victims of Aggression Day on June 4, 1982. That day, the General Assembly criticised Israel’s acts of aggression against the innocent Palestinian and Lebanese children.
It was first recognised on June 5, 1972, by the UNEP. The state of Pakistan has been chosen the host this year for the celebrations under the theme’ ecosystem restoration.’
ILCAD is a recognised worldwide initiative to promote the safety of the level crossing. It was an initiative started by Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC.)
It is celebrated to make people aware of how human actions impact our oceans and water-based wildlife. It was first recognised in 1992 by Canada’s International Centre for Ocean Development and the Ocean Institute of Canada at the Earth Summit – UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
It was during ILO’s Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour when the day was first recognised. The day is intended to highlight the grave plight of child labourers worldwide and make people aware of the possible solutions.
The aim is to celebrate the contributions made by the unpaid blood donors, voluntary service providers and raise awareness about safe blood transfusion and safe blood products.
This was the day when UNGA in 1994 passed the resolution A/RES/49/115 for the observance of “World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.” So, by passing this resolution UN invited all the stakeholders to take the initiative to solve the issues pertaining to droughts and desertification.
It is celebrated by the UNCHR to recognise the strength and courage of the refugees who have to flee from their country due to internal conflicts, persecutions, and civil wars.
The United Nations recognise the following day for celebrating the duties and services provided by the public service community.
The United Nations officially recognised it to raise awareness about the injustices and poverty faced by the widows and their beloved children in many countries. The idea is to empower such women and fight for their rights.
It is very well celebrated by UNODC every year to strengthen the global fight against the illicit use of drugs and trafficking. This year’s theme focus is to spread the correct information about the issue and curb misinformation.
The day was announced by the passing of the United Nations Resolution 61/225. It was a joint initiative pursued by World Health Organization and International Diabetes Federation to recognise and avenge the global threat caused by diabetes in both present and the coming future.
