Improve GA Score by Preparing This Way

The Right Preparation Strategy is Important to Score Full Marks in GA

The general awareness section plays a very important role to clear any bank examination. This section comes in phase 2 or Mains exam of almost all the bank exams. You can easily score full marks in very little time in this section. But for this, you will have to follow the right preparation strategy. If we talk about mains examination of IBPS Clerk there will be 50/190 questions of GA and SBI PO or IBPS PO  Mains exams will have 40/155 questions. RBI Assistant Mains has 40/200 questions. This allocation of questions simply shows how much potential do you have in scoring high. To improve GA score is very easy in comparison to Reasoning, Numerical Ability/Quantitative Aptitude and English Language if backed with a proper preparation strategy. Long story cut short, it gives you more marks in less investment of time.

The Right Time to Start GA Preparation is ‘Now’

A lot of Mains exams will be conducted in the upcoming days. It’s better that you start your preparation now itself and keep revising the study material. Also, keep updating yourself about current affairs as days go by. Don’t make the mistake of keeping the preparation of General Awareness for the last week/month etc. Things might turn out to be clumsy in those last preparatory days. To help you with your preparation for General Awareness Section, we are sharing the preparation & revision tips which will also help you improve GA score in the Mains examination.

Some Important Tips for General and Financial Awareness Section

  • Keep an eye on the Current Affairs of the last 6 months from the date of mains exam and revise it thoroughly.
  • While revising current affairs, pick topics that occur most recently and then pick those which happened 1 month back and so on and so forth. In other words, if the Mains exam is in the month of December, you should revise December current affairs first and then November, October etc.
  • Why! You may ask… We say so because the months which are just prior to the date of the exam are generally considered to be the most important ones from the current affairs point of view.
  • Approximatey 50 per cent questions are sourced from three months prior to the date of examination and 70 per cent from last four months and 80 per cent from last five months.
  • Give more focus on Current Banking And Financial Awareness, because as per the analyses of the mains exam held in the past, the share of current banking and financial awareness questions in the general awareness section have been high.
  • Nowadays, more questions related to data and facts (current affairs) are asked in the examination. So make notes of these types of current affairs and revise them regularly.
  • News related to all recently conducted important events is to be remembered along with their important facts. Examples are Noble Prize Winners, any important national and international awards, MoUs, collaboration etc. for the upcoming Mains Exam.
  • Take current affairs quizzes on daily basis. When you attempt quizzes, it will help you to revise General Awareness sections and help you to retain news in your mind.
  • Practising Mock Tests on a regular and continuous basis helps you focus more on the General and Financial Awareness Section in the Mains exam of 2021 & 2022.
  • While preparing the General Awareness section, try to link the news you are going through, with each other- if you read any news in the past and the current news is simply a major/minor update on it. This habit will help you retain the news and other important aspects related to that news.
  • Try to remember & collate the news you read in one place- suppose if you see any state in news, and earlier if you have read any news related to that very state, combine both news. This way, you can retain more categorical news.
  • Try to use the elimination method in some questions where you can. Apply this technique judiciously and carefully in the exam.
  • Learn and Revise Abbreviations that you observe in current news on a daily basis.
  • Downloading the free Current Affairs Weekly PDFs and Monthly Current Affairs PDF Bazooka will definitely help you a lot.
  • Prioritize those Static GK topics which are in the news in the last 4-5 months. If prepared well, candidates can score well in this.
  • Prioritize Capitals and Currencies of those countries which were in news recently.
  • Prioritize Headquarters of those organisations which were in the news in the last few months.
  • Devote the morning time towards the revision of prepared topics.
  • Practice Previous Year Question Papers so as to get an idea about the kinds of questions are asked in the examination.
  • Don’t resort to any guesswork, if you get confused in any question, please mark for review and check it later. But don’t answer randomly as there is negative marking for every question wrongly answered.

There’s no second thought that only practising in a controlled environment can help you understand your strengths and weaknesses and will help you to capitalize on those. So, keep practising mock tests, check your weak areas and start working to improve those weak areas. And this will definitely help you improve GA score of yours.
