National Maritime Day – 5th April

This annual celebration is dedicated to honor the brave men who contribute to India’s global trade and commerce by spending months at the sea. This tradition of celebrating the National Maritime Day dates back to 1964. The historical reason for celebrating the National Maritime Day on 5th April as back in the year 1919 it is on this day the first merchant ship was sailed under the Indian flag from Mumbai to London which was owned by India Steam Navigation Company Ltd.

International Day of Sport for Development and Peace – 6th April

World Health Day – 7th April

World Homeopathy Day – 10th April

This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of homeopathy ,Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. Homoeopathy is believed to have originated in the 5th century BC, but it was not until the 19th century that homoeopathy gained popularity in Europe and spread to North America.

National Pet Day – 11th April

International Day of Human Space Flight – 12th April

This was the day back in the year 1961 when the first human space flight was carried out by a Soviet citizen, Yuri Gagarin. It is celebrated every year to mark the importance of contribution of space science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals.

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Day – 13th April

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre also known as the Amritsar Massacre took place on 13th April, 1919. It was a peaceful protest happening against the Rowlatt Act. This day is marked as a tribute to the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives in the Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar.

B.R Ambedkar Remembrance Day – 14th April

This day is celebrated in the memory of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Also known as Ambedkar Jayanti. Babasaheb Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891. Since 2015, it is celebrated as an official public holiday throughout India. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated on this day not only in India but all over the world.

World Haemophilia Day – 17th April

It is a day that is observed annually, commemorating the birthday of the founder of the World Federation of Hemophilia, Frank Schnabel. This day is marked as an awareness day and to provide education about hemophilia.
