- Business Creation – As an AM, it is your prime responsibility to bring in a new customer or introduce existing customers with new or existing IDBI products to increase sales. Such products include opening new saving accounts, mutual funds, loans, fixed deposits, insurance products, etc.
- Customer Services – Indian customers, as usual, have too many queries about banking operations. It is your job to address their concerns and make sure that they are heard. When they leave the bank that day, they should feel that their problem was solved or provided a suitable solution.
- Clerical jobs – All of the clerical workings are more or less supervised by an assistant manager. Your seniors expect you to manage clerks as it creates a well-defined hierarchy in the working setup of a bank.
- ATM Related Grievances – Banks daily receive queries regarding lost ATM cards, block requests, new pin generation, new ATM card application, and other queries. ATM Cards being a serious affair, is looked after by assistant managers.
- Branch Oriented Roles – Specific roles that are strictly concerned with the branch you will be working for can be appointed. The bigger the branch, the bigger the weight on your shoulders but will also bring the best learning opportunities.
- Financial Tasks: A list of major financial tasks include issuing loans, looking and tracking for the credit requirements of all the customers. Assessment of someone’s credit ratings. Looking after the EMI defaulters and submitting all the necessary information in reports to the top management.
- Acting as the face of the branch – An AM is basically at the heart of banking operations. AM’s act as perfect mediators between senior and junior level management. Even important customers are in touch with AM the most.

The extant basic pay applicable to Assistant Managers in Grade A is Rs.36,000/- per month in the pay scale of 36000-1490(7)-46430-1740 (2) –49910–1990(7)-63840 (17 years). The pay scales, allowances, reimbursements, perquisites, and other terms subsisting at the time of joining and as may be modified/amended / revised from time to time would be applicable as per rules in force from time 11 to time.
