Important Topics for IBPS PO Prelims 2020
The topics we are about to discuss will help you in decide the order in which you should attempt the questions in the upcoming IBPS PO exam. It is also important to ensure you understand the concepts properly before practicing the topics given below to score maximum marks in the prelims exam.
Here are the section-wise important topics:
Important Topics of English Language
The English section of the Prelims exam will invite 30 questions and carrying a total of 30 marks. You need to focus on the following topics as per the previous year’s pattern.
- Reading Comprehension
You can expect 8-10 questions in the IBPS PO prelims. The passage might be economy-based. Read Business Standard or The Economist to deal with such passages.
- Cloze Test
Be ready to face 4-5 Questions cloze Test. Cover different types of questions and questions based on the new pattern.
- Spotting Errors/Sentence Correction/Sentence Improvement
Expect 6-10 questions on this topic. You should also be ready to face questions from Sentence Improvement instead of spotting errors. You need to revisit grammar rules and understand them properly to successfully deal with this section.
- Para Jumbles/Sentence Rearrangement
You may have to face 4-5 questions from this part of the syllabus. Practice questions based on the new pattern and practice as many questions as you can.
Important Topics of Reasoning Ability
Reasoning Ability Section invites 35 questions in the IBPS PO prelims carrying 35 marks. Focus more on the topics given below:
- Puzzles and Seating Arrangement
You can expect 2-3 sets of puzzles and seating arrangements or 10-15 questions. Practice questions like:
- Moderate circular arrangement
- 1 floor-based puzzle
- 1 linear arrangement (people sitting in a single row, some facing south and some facing north)
Apart from floor puzzles, try to cover tabulation and box-based puzzles as well.
- Syllogism
- You can expect 4-5 questions from this part. Practice different types of questions and new pattern-based syllogism problems as well.
- Input-Output
- You can expect complex questions of Input-output. Don’t forget that in the new pattern of questions, there is some coding-decoding also involved in Input-output questions now.
- Blood Relations, Direction, and Ranking based questions
- Expect 5-10 questions from Blood Relations and Direction. These topics are very easy to cover and scoring.
- Data Sufficiency
- You can expect 5 questions from data sufficiency part. Data sufficiency is the amalgamation or combination of all the reasoning topics. It is essential to know all the concepts of each topic properly to answer Data Sufficiency questions. This includes questions from blood relation, direction, ranking, coding-decoding etc.
Important Topics of Quantitative Aptitude
The Quantitative Aptitude section invites 35 questions in IBPS PO Prelims, carrying 35 marks out of the total of 100 Marks. You should practice the following topics to fetch maximum marks in this part of the exam:
- Number Series:
You can expect 4-5 questions from Number Series. Therefore, you need to practice different patterns of missing number series and wrong number series. Focus on arithmetic-based, squares/cubes-based series, the combination of arithmetic operations based, double level operations-based number series.
- Data Interpretation
You can expect at least 2 sets, about 10 questions from Data Interpretation. Practice tabular DI since it is important and has been appearing in the exam for the past few years. Follow it with the line, bar, or pie chart. Also practice questions on Caselet, Missing and Mixed DI.
- Simplification/ Approximation
You can expect 4-5 questions from these topics. Try to solve these questions with the BODMAS approach and practice questions from this topic regularly.
- Quadratic Equations
You can expect 5 questions from Quadratic Equations. Practice factorization method.
- Miscellaneous
You can expect 8-10 questions from the Miscellaneous category. You need to practice Age-based problems, questions on Simple and Compound Interest, Profit, Loss and Discount, Partnerships, Time, work and wages, Mixture and allegation, boats and streams, and probability. Expect more than 1 question from topics like time and work, partnerships, profit and loss. Practice these topics as much as you can.
