Phase 1: 1-30 Days
As this is the starting phase for the preparation of the exam, at this position, first, you need to understand the exam, such as the SSC CGL syllabus, exam pattern, topic-wise weightage, etc. After knowing the syllabus, make your study plan and start with the basics. The study plan must cover the whole syllabus, regular revision, practice of basic questions, regular breaks, etc. Focus on simple and scoring topics such as:
- Quantitative Aptitude: Number system, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Time and Work, etc.
- Reasoning: Logical reasoning, Number series, Coding-Decoding, Direction Sense, Blood Relations, etc.
- General Awareness: History, Geography, Polity, General Science, Current Affairs, etc.
- English Language: Parts of speech, tenses, sentence structure, articles, prepositions, etc.
NOTE: Make sure whenever you study any topic, you are attempting the topic tests too just after finishing the study of that topic. For topic-wise, we have provided the direct link, and those tests are totally free.
Phase 2: 31-60 Days
Now you have the understanding of basics and you have cleared your fundamentals. It’s time to increase your level of study because the SSC can present any type of questions (based on difficulty level). So, for 31 to 60 days, your task is to move on to the advanced level topics and cover most scoring topics.
Goals for these Days:
- Improve your study on those topics that you have covered in 1-30 days.
- Cover those topics too that are remaining as per the syllabus.
- Take sectional tests to get a deep understanding of each section.
- Subject-Wise Breakdown:
- Quantitative Aptitude: Work on Advanced topics like Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Mensuration.
- Reasoning: Solve complex puzzles, figure-based questions, and analytical reasoning problems.
- General Awareness: Past 6 months current affairs, read newspapers and make short notes (will help during last days of the exam).
- English Language: Focus on advanced grammar rules: Sentence correction, error spotting, fill in the blanks, etc.
Phase 3: 61-90 Days
Now you have 40 days remaining, and you have covered almost the entire syllabus. First, look at the syllabus carefully and make sure you have covered each topic. In case there are any remaining topics, add that topic for study and cover it in these days.
- In these 40 days, try to strengthen the topics you have studied up to now.
- This is the time when you have to focus on revision and practice very much.
- Make a schedule and add on the timings to revise each topic daily.
- It is mandatory to attempt at least two mock tests a week for practice purposes.
- After taking the mock tests, make sure you are analyzing your mistakes carefully.
- Based on the performance report, note your weak areas and focus on them.
- The SSC provides 60 minutes to attempt the exam, which means you have to improve your speed and accuracy, too. It can be possible by practicing the mock tests. So, whenever you attempt the mock test, try to complete it in 55 minutes instead of 60 minutes. It is a very powerful technique to attempt the exam effectively.
Phase 4: 91-100 Days
At this point, you have completed the entire syllabus, you have done much practice, and you have mastered the easy and advanced level topics too. But don’t think that during these 10 days you will not study anything. These are the most important 10 days that you are required to utilize very carefully. Below, we have mentioned some important work that you have to take care of during these 10 days.
- You have to do a complete revision during these 10 days. So, divide the revision into 10 days and make a schedule that can help you to do a complete revision.
- Attempt one mock test in two days and analyze it very carefully. This time, you should be able to complete your mock test in 55 minutes.
- Do not try to pick any new topic (in case you have not covered in the past).
- Revise formulas (related to quantitative aptitude), shortcuts, and tricks (that can be used in reasoning), current affairs, important highlights (related to general awareness), grammar rules, vocabulary, reading, etc.
- If your exam is about to be conducted in 3-4 days, then make sure you are ready with the necessary documents, such as two photos, a photo ID, admit cards, etc., to avoid the last-minute rush.
