How to Become Chief General Manager-SBI PO

Do you want to clear the SBI PO and become a Chief General Manager? It is a question that the majority of aspirants know before competing for the SBI PO exam. And it is a good sign of an intelligent candidate to make a choice after proper research and analysis! Are you one of them? An SBI PO can appear in internal examinations conducted by the State Bank of India for the promotion to become Chief General Manager. One cannot directly apply for a managerial position, as the post requires sufficient experience and managerial knowledge about banking operations.

But to reach there, you will have to clear the prelims and mains written examination and the personal interview round as well. SBI POs carry out the official day-to-day work of the bank on a daily basis. These officers undergo a probation period of two years in the banks. In this period, they learn the day-to-day workings and terms of the Bank, as most of the candidates who apply for the posts have no prior idea about the banking sector.

Let’s now take a look at how your career can experience progress as an SBI Probationary Officer!

SBI PO: Promotion or Career Progression

Conclusion

As an SBI PO, your career will experience quick promotions and growth, as the promotion process takes lesser time as compared to other PSBs. There, the employees get promoted on basis of merit relatively quickly. SBI PO promotions happen after clearing the internal exams and not on basis of seniority. An SBI PO has the chance to get promoted to a higher rank, mentioned above, every year on clearing a written examination and an interview. Hence, Chief General Manager’s journey doesn’t stop at where he reaches! Reaching this post opens up the gateway to becoming the General Manager (GM) Deputy Managing Director, Managing Director, and finally the Chairman of the SBI. But the promotions solely depend on SBI PO promotion policies. Sometimes it may take 35-40 years of service at State Bank of India, as in the case of the current Chairman of SBI, Rajnish Kumar, and sometimes 30-40 years of service, as reflected by the career growth of the former Chairman of SBI, Arundhati Bhattacharya, who joined SBI as an SBI PO in the year 1977. So, we can deduce from these two cases that within 30-40 years of service with SBI, an SBI PO can possibly reach the top position.
