Be it SBI Clerk or SBI PO, around 15 lakh candidates apply for the recruitment examinations conducted by SBI to try their talents and luck in it. And the majority of them apply for both the posts, to get selected in either of the two Exams.

And the tragedy is that the success ratio in both the Exams is less than 2 percent, whereas the syllabus and format of both the exams are almost the same.

SBI Clerk ‘vs’ SBI PO

The candidates, who fail in getting selected for Bank PO posts, have to get settled with the clerical position. But the candidate, who gets selected for the SBI Clerk post and aspires to become an SBI PO, can do so by following the criteria of the SBI.

The candidates who get selected for the clerical position have to undergo a probation period of at least six months. However, based on the candidate’s performance, that period can be extended. State Bank of India, and almost all the public sector, conducts internal Exams for the employees (clerks and others) who want promotion every two years.

Eligibility for the Internal Exam

An employee can take the internal test for promotion only after serving the Bank for at least three years. In addition, he/she will have to face an interview and a written Exam and will become a TO or Trainee Officer for a period of two years. After completing two years of the probation period, he/she will be recruited as MMGS-II or Middle Management Grade Scale-II Cadre.

An OBC candidate can take it seven times. There is no restriction on the number of attempts by SC (Scheduled Caste) or ST (Scheduled Tribe) or PWD (Persons with Disabilities) candidates.

Conclusion

A candidate, after becoming an SBI Clerk, can get an opportunity of becoming a Probationary Officer. It is a better opportunity when compared to other Banks, because of the clear and swift promotion process of the SBI. It is better to never give up on the post of Bank PO because a Clerk can grow up to the Assistant General Manager’s post in SBI, whereas, a Bank PO can grow as high as Chairman of the SBI (State Bank of India). And for that, you need to crack the SBI Clerk Exam first. And Mock Tests play a major role in helping you accomplish that goal.
