High level DI for SBI PO Questions & Answers

Caselet DI:

4000 people (male + female) participated in an event and categorised in three different categories i.e. VVIP, VIP and normal people. Ratio of VIPs to VVIPs who participated in the event is 7:5. Out of total normal people who participated in the event, 40% were males which were 512 less than number of male VIPs who participated in the event. Out of total VVIPs who participated in the event, 450 were males, while the sum of number of female VIPs and VVIPs together who participated in the event was 1470.

Common Solution:

Let the number of VIPs and VVIPs who participated in the event be 7x and 5x, respectively

Therefore, number of normal people who participated in the event = 4000 – (7x + 5x) = (4000 – 12x)

Number of normal males who participated in the event = 0.4(4000 – 12x) = (1600 – 4.8x)

Number of normal females who participated in the event = 0.6(4000 – 12x) = (2400 – 7.2x)

Number of male VIPs who participated in the event = 1600 – 4.8x + 512 = (2112 – 4.8x)

Number of female VIPs who participated in the event = 7x – (2112 – 4.8x) = (11.8x – 2112)

Number of male VVIPs who participated in the event = 450

Number of female VVIPs who participated in the event = (5x – 450)

According to the question,

11.8x – 2112 + 5x – 450 = 1470

Or, 16.8x = 4032

Or, x = 240

Therefore, number of normal people who participated in the event = (4000 – 12x) = 1120

Number of normal males who participated in the event = 0.4 ×1120 = 448

Number of normal females who participated in the event = 1120 – 448 = 672

Number of VIPs who participated in the event = 7x = 1680

Number of male VIPs who participated in the event = 448 + 512 = 960

Number of female VIPs who participated in the event = 1680 – 960 = 720

Number of VVIPs who participated in the event = 5x = 1200

Number of male VVIPs who participated in the event = 450

Number of female VVIPs who participated in the event = 1200 – 450 = 750

1.) Find the sum of the number of normal females and female VIPs who participated in the event.

a.) 1382

b.) 1424

c.) 1248

d.) 1392

e.) 1164

Answer: d)

Solution:

Required sum = 672 + 720 = 1392

Hence, option d.

Mixed Chart DI:

The given pie-chart shows the percentage distribution of total number of five different types of energy drinks sold on Monday and Friday together. The number of bottles of Amp sold on Monday and Friday together is 360 more than the number of bottles of Nos sold on Monday and Friday together.

The given line graph shows the percentage of number of bottles of each energy drink sold on Monday out of the total number of bottles of that drink sold on Monday and Friday together.

Common Solution:

Let the total number of bottles of given five energy drinks sold on Monday and Friday together be ‘x’

Therefore, number of bottles of Nos sold on Monday and Friday together = 0.18x

Number of bottles of Amp sold on Monday and Friday together = 0.26x

According to the question,

0.26x – 0.18x = 360

Or, 0.08x = 360

Or, x = 360/0.08 = 4500

Therefore,

Number of bottles of Red bull sold on Monday and Friday together = 0.12x = 540

Number of bottles of Red bull sold on Monday = 0.25 × 540 = 135

Number of bottles of Red bull sold on Friday = 540 – 135 = 405

Similarly,

Energy drink Total bottles sold Number of bottles sold on Monday Number of bottles sold on Friday
Red bull 540 135 405
Monster 900 360 540
Nos 810 162 648
Bang 1080 648 432
Amp 1170 351 819

1.) Number of bottles of Bang sold on Friday is how much percent more/less than the number of bottles of Monster sold on Monday?

a.) 12%

b.) 30%

c.) 15%

d.) 20%

e.) 25%

Answer: d)

Solution:

Required percentage = {(432 – 360)/360} × 100 = 20%

Hence, option d.

Arithmetic Based DI

The line graph given below shows the percentage by which five different friends marked their goods above the cost price, and the discount percentage given and the amount (in Rs.) for which they sold their articles.

Common Solution:

For Carryminati:

Let cost price of the article = Rs. 100x

Marked price of the article = 1.6 × 100x = Rs. 160x

Selling price of the article = 0.6 × 160x = 96x

So, 96x = 768

x = 8

Cost price of the article = Rs. 800

Marked price of the article = 160 × 8 = Rs. 1280

For Bhuvan:

Let cost price of the article = Rs. 100x

Marked price of the article = 1.5 × 100x = Rs. 150x

Selling price of the article = 0.64 × 150x = 96x

So, 96x = 864

x = 9

Cost price of the article = Rs. 900

Marked price of the article = 150 × 9 = Rs. 1350

For Amit:

Let cost price of the article = Rs. 100x

Marked price of the article = 1.75 × 100x = Rs. 175x

Selling price of the article = 0.72 × 175x = 126x

So, 126x = 756

x = 6

Cost price of the article = Rs. 600

Marked price of the article = 175 × 6 = Rs. 1050

For Ashish:

Let cost price of the article = Rs. 100x

Marked price of the article = 1.65 × 100x = Rs. 165x

Selling price of the article = 0.68 × 165x = 112.2x

So, 112.2x = 1122

x = 10

Cost price of the article = Rs. 1000

Marked price of the article = 165 × 10 = Rs. 1650

For Harsh:

Let cost price of the article = Rs. 100x

Marked price of the article = 1.8 × 100x = Rs. 180x

Selling price of the article = 0.72 × 180x = 129.6x

So, 129.6x = 648

x = 5

Cost price of the article = Rs. 500

Marked price of the article = 180 × 5 = Rs. 900

Names Marked price (in Rs.) Cost price (in Rs.)
Carryminati 1280 800
Bhuvan 1350 900
Amit 1050 600
Ashish 1650 1000
Harsh 900 500

1. What is the cost price of article for Carryminati?

a.) Rs. 600

b.) Rs. 800

c.) Rs. 850

d.) Rs. 900

e.) None of these

Ans: b

Solution:

Cost price of article for Carryminati = Rs. 800

Hence, option b.
