GK/GA Preparation Guide for EPFO SSA 2023

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) conducts the Social Security Assistant (SSA) exam every year to recruit candidates for various posts in its offices across India. Exam date of EPFO SSA hasn’t been released yet. But you should not wait for getting the exam date released. Rather, you should start your preparation so that when the dates are out, you just need to brush your basics, revise profusely and give your best in the exam. The EPFO SSA exam consists of three phases: Preliminary, Main and Skill Test. The Phase 1 exam has 5 sections viz. General Aptitude, General Knowledge/ General Awareness, Quantitative Ability, General English with Comprehension and Computer Literacy.

EPFO SSA Phase 1 Free Mock Test

The General Knowledge/ General Awareness section is one of the four sections in the Main exam, along with Reasoning/ Intelligence, English Language and Quantitative Aptitude.

Importance of General Knowledge/ General Awareness section

The General Knowledge/ General Awareness section tests the candidates’ knowledge of current affairs, history, geography, polity, economy, science and technology, sports and awards. The section carries 40 marks out of the total 200 marks in the Main exam. The candidates have to answer 30 objective-type questions in 150 minutes (there is no sectional timing; 150 minutes of composite time is for all the 5 sections). There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

To prepare well for the General Knowledge/ General Awareness section, the candidates need to follow some tips and strategies as given below:

Read Extensively

Read newspapers and magazines regularly to keep yourself updated with the latest national and international events. You can also watch news channels or listen to podcasts to improve your general awareness.

Make Your Own Notes

Make notes of important facts, dates, names, places and events that you come across while reading or watching the news. You can also use flashcards or online apps to revise them periodically.

Refer to Relevant & Trustworthy Sources

Refer to reliable sources of information such as NCERT books, government websites, official reports and publications for topics related to history, geography, polity, economy, science and technology. You can also use online quizzes or mock tests to check your understanding and accuracy.
