GATE Exam

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that is conducted every year by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The exam is designed to test the aptitude of candidates in various undergraduate subjects of Engineering/Technology/Architecture and postgraduate-level subjects of Science.

GATE is primarily conducted for admission to various postgraduate courses such as M.E., M.Tech, MS, and Direct Ph.D., and for recruitment to various public sector undertakings (PSUs) such as BHEL, IOCL, NTPC, ONGC, etc. GATE scores are also used by some universities in India and abroad for admission to their programs.

Other Competitive Exams

Apart from GATE, there are various other competitive exams that are conducted in India for admission to various courses or for recruitment to various jobs. Some of the popular exams are:

Common Admission Test (CAT) – conducted for admission to management courses such as MBA, PGDM, etc.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) – conducted for admission to graduate programs such as MS, PhD, etc. in foreign universities.
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) – conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programs.
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) – conducted for admission to undergraduate medical and dental programs.
Civil Services Examination (CSE) – conducted for recruitment to various services under the Government of India.
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) – conducted for recruitment to various posts in various ministries and departments of the Government of India.
