NOTE: Aspirants must remember that GATE Cut Off, GATE rank, and GATE score are three different things. They must not confuse GATE rank with GATE score. Let’s understand it in simple terms. A student with marks of around 67 and a GATE score of around 810 is expected to get a rank near 170 in Electronics and Communication Engineering. A candidate expecting a rank under 1000 has good chances of getting into a preferred branch in NITs. One more thing to keep in mind is that getting a good rank in GATE does not guarantee admission. Candidates must prepare seriously for the interview to move in the admission process. The preparation for Group Discussion (GD) is also important for the admission process. GATE rank is based on how well candidates perform in comparison to each other. GATE score indicates the actual marks obtained by a candidate. And thus, both rank and score are important for admission to preferred branches.
The GATE Cut Off marks may be different every year, but the rank of candidates required for the selection in a specific college or course remains almost the same. Why is it so, candidates may ask? This uniformity is because the number of seats for a particular course does not change regularly. In addition, the cut off marks may be different each year but the rank required for selection in a particular college and course is almost the same. This is because the seats for a particular course do not change regularly. They remain the same. Candidates are thus recommended to aim for an AIR rank of around 100 in GATE exam. Getting this rank will increase the chances of admission into IISc. A similar rank will also increase the chances of getting inside Top IITs. It also helps candidates to plan and prepare for GATE exam in a better way. It is to be noted that the changes in GATE Cut Off 2024 marks will not importantly impact rank requirements for top colleges. High AIR ranks are essential for securing admission to renowned engineering institutes. Therefore, targeting a top rank guarantees better options in desired courses and colleges.
Name of the Institute(s) | Required GATE Rank |
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay | (1) For Direct Admission: AIR < 100 (2) For some courses: ≤ AIR ≤ 600 |
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi Indian Institute of Technology, Madras | (1) For Direct Admission: AIR < 100 (2) For some courses: ≤ AIR ≤ 300 |
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur | AIR ≤ 600 |
Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati Indian Institute of Technology, BHU | AIR ≤ 1000 |
National Institute of Technologies Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad Indian Institute of Technology, Patna, etc | AIR ≤ 1500 |
Government Engineering Colleges (National & State level) | AIR ≤ 2500 |
Private Engineering Colleges (National & State level) | AIR ≥ 2500 |
GATE Cut Off 2024 will play a pivotal role in the GATE 2024 exam. Candidates should also remember that GATE 2024 scores act as gateways to admissions to M. Tech programs at IITs, NITs and other GFTIs. Therefore, candidates should keep GATE Cut Off in mind. Here we will shed light on college-wise GATE Cut off for top M. Tech Colleges in India. Each IIT releases its own cut off separately after the completion of the admission process, whereas the cut offs for NITs and GFTIs are released separately through opening and closing ranks after each CCMT counselling round.
