The objective of this section is to test your logical and reasoning ability and so on many occasions, this section has proved to be a tricky one. The best way to crack this section will be to select one topic daily, understand the concept well and then practice as many questions as possible from it. Apart from that, you should get into the habit of practising/solving questions from the previous year papers and also take a mock test pertaining to this section at least once in two days. Doing this exercise regularly will only help you to sharpen your reasoning and thinking skills and in this process, you might even develop your own shortcut which may come in handy during the exam. Remember, you can crack this section only if your concepts are crystal clear and you have spent enough time practising hundreds of questions from each of the topics.
The key to conquering this section is to stay updated with current affairs and the best way to do that is by reading good newspapers on a daily basis. You may also refer to our weekly CA capsule which contains all the information on current affairs. Besides that, we would also like to suggest you refer to the most probable current affairs questions that we publish on a regular basis. This contains recent & relevant questions related to current affairs. The other thing you should do is that you should be updated with current affairs of at least the last one year. For this, you may refer to books published by Arihant Publishers or Lucent GK Book or any other books of your choice pertaining to this section. Finally, start giving mock tests for this section. However, because you will have to prepare for other sections as well, we would suggest that you give at least one mock test on this section a least once in three days.
If you are preparing for topics on quants for the first, then we would suggest that you refer to R.S. Agarwal book on Quantitative Aptitude as it will help you to build your concepts. However, because you have around one and a half months’ time, we would recommend that to prepare for this section you pick up at least one topic every day and work on understanding the concepts. Once you are well-versed with it and feel a little confident about it, then start solving as many questions as possible relevant to that topic. Hence, it is important that you complete the quants syllabus as soon as possible. Further, you should quickly get started with giving mock tests on the quantitative aptitude section as well. Also, make sure that after every mock test you spend some time analyzing the results as it will help you to figure out the topics in which you need to put more effort. Remember, this is one section that can be solved quickly with higher accuracy. However, because you have to solve 25 questions in approximately 15 minutes, it is of utmost importance that you select the easier questions first and mark the difficult ones for later.
Many aspirants of ESIC UDC Prelims consider this section to be tough as there isn’t any straightforward rule to be applied in this section unlike reasoning ability and quantitative aptitude.
