What is EPFO?
EPFO stands for Employees’ Provident Fund Organization, which is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. EPFO administers various social security schemes for workers in the organized sector such as provident fund, pension and insurance.
What are SSA and Stenographer posts?
SSA stands for Social Security Assistant, which is a clerical post that involves maintaining accounts, data entry and other administrative work related to EPFO schemes. Stenographer is a post that involves taking dictation, typing and other secretarial work.

How many vacancies are there?
According to the official notification released by EPFO on 22 March 2023, there are a total of 2859 vacancies for SSA and Stenographer posts. Out of these, 2674 are for SSA and 185 are for Stenographer.
What is the eligibility criteria?
To apply for these posts, you need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
- Age limit: You should be between 18 to 27 years as on 26 April 2023. However, there is age relaxation for reserved categories as per government rules.
- Educational Qualification & Other Skills: For SSA: You should have a degree from a recognized university or equivalent plus a typing speed of 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi on computer
For Stenographer: 12th pass from a recognized board plus Dictation: Ten minutes at a rate of eighty words per minute plus Transcription: Fifty minutes (English)/ Sixty-five minutes (Hindi) only on computer
How to apply?
To apply for these posts, you need to follow these steps on March 27, 2023:
- Visit the official website of EPFO @https://www.epfindia.gov.in or NTA @https://nta.ac.in
- Click on the link “Apply Online” under “Recruitment of Social Security Assistants & Stenographers in EPFO”
- Register yourself by providing basic details such as name, email id, mobile number etc.
- Login with your registration number and password
- Fill up the online application form with personal details, educational details etc.
- Upload scanned copies of your photograph (4 kb -30 kb), signature (1 kb -10 kb) and left thumb impression (10 kb -30 kb) in JPG/JPEG format
- Pay the application fee online through debit card/credit card/net banking/UPI/Paytm
- Submit your application form and take a printout of it

What is the selection process?
The selection process consists of three phases:
Phase I – Preliminary Examination:
This is an online objective test consisting of three sections: English Language (30 questions), Reasoning Ability (35 questions) and Numerical Aptitude (35 questions). Each question carries one mark and there is negative marking of one-fourth mark for each wrong answer. The total duration of this test is one hour.
Phase II – Main Examination:
This is also an online objective test consisting of four sections: Reasoning/Intelligence (40 questions), General/Economy/Financial Awareness (40 questions), English Language (30 questions) and Quantitative Aptitude (40 questions). Each question carries two marks and there is negative marking of one-fourth mark for each wrong answer. The total duration of this test is two hours.

Phase III – Computer Skill Test/Data Entry Test/Stenography Test:
This is a qualifying test that will assess your computer skills/data entry skills/stenography skills depending on your post applied for. The minimum qualifying marks for this test are 50% for General/OBC/EWS candidates and 40% for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
