Difference Between IBPS Clerk and RRB Clerk

Banking is a popular career choice for many students in India. It is a highly competitive field that offers a range of job opportunities to aspirants. Among the various roles available in the banking sector, the position of clerk is one of the most sought-after jobs. The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) are two organizations that conduct exams to recruit clerks. Exam Conducting Authority

The first and foremost difference between IBPS Clerk and RRB Clerk is the conducting authority. IBPS is a national-level organization that conducts exams for various public sector banks, whereas RRBs are regional-level rural banks that are sponsored by nationalized banks. The IBPS Clerk exam is conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, and the RRB Clerk exam is conducted by the respective RRBs.

Job Role and Responsibility

The job role and responsibilities of IBPS Clerk and RRB Clerk are more or less the same. Both positions involve assisting customers with various banking services, maintaining records, and performing clerical duties such as data entry, bookkeeping, and document verification. The primary difference is that RRB Clerks work in rural areas, whereas IBPS Clerks work in both rural and urban areas.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for IBPS Clerk and RRB Clerk are also similar, but there are some differences. To apply for the IBPS Clerk exam, candidates must have a minimum educational qualification of a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university. On the other hand, to apply for the RRB Clerk exam, candidates must have a minimum educational qualification of a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university, along with proficiency in the local language of the state or union territory where the RRB is located.

Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for IBPS Clerk and RRB Clerk is different. The IBPS Clerk exam consists of two stages: Preliminary and Mains, whereas the RRB Clerk exam consists of only one stage. The IBPS Clerk Preliminary exam consists of three sections – English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability, and the Mains exam consists of four sections – General/Financial Awareness, General English, Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude, and Quantitative Aptitude.

Salary and Perks

The salary and perks for IBPS Clerk and RRB Clerk are also different. The basic pay scale for an IBPS Clerk is Rs. 11,765-42,020, whereas, for an RRB Clerk, it is Rs. 7,200-19,300. However, the salary of an RRB Clerk varies based on the location of the RRB. In addition to the basic salary, both positions offer various perks such as medical benefits, pension, and leave travel allowance.

In conclusion, while IBPS Clerk and RRB Clerk positions may seem similar, there are some key differences in terms of conducting authority, job role and responsibility, eligibility criteria, exam pattern, and salary and perks. Candidates should carefully consider these differences before choosing which exam to take and which position to apply for.
