Now when the SBI PO Prelims exam is over, you must have geared up with your Mains preparation. SBI PO Mains conducts a descriptive test once the aspirants are done with their objective test. This test incorporates letter writing (formal & informal) and essay writing tests. Let’s have a look at some quick facts about these tests and then we will share some preparation tips. The tests will carry a total of 50 marks and it needs to be completed in 30 minutes. You need to type your answer on the keyboard as these tests will be online.
This test will have 2 components: Let’s have a look at the format and tips of both components: Letter Writing and Essay.
The Letter Writing test checks how well a candidate is able to handle written communication with others. To start with, you should understand the difference between an informal and a formal letter.
Formal Letter: A formal letter is addressed to authorities, professionals etc. and it should be limited to the subject at hand. It can start with Respected, Sir etc. and should end with Yours Faithfully.
Informal Letter: On the other hand, an informal letter can be addressed to anybody with whom you want to share any informal story. The tone is casual and you have comparatively more flexibility in driving the flow of the letter. It often starts with Hello, Dear etc. You may end the letter with Yours Sincerely, Yours affectionately etc. You must stick to the below format when writing a letter. Please note that all content should be left-aligned.

Keep the word limit (if any) in mind. In any way, keep the letter short and to the point. While starting the body of the letter you must introduce yourself and the purpose of writing the letter. The conclusion of the body should have a polite reiteration of what action you want to be taken from the recipient’s side.

Tips on Essay Writing Test
The essay writing test intends to assess how well an aspirant is able to structure his or her ideas on a given topic and write them on a computer. It needs imaginative as well as good writing skills. The aspirant also needs to have some basic idea of the issue on which he/she is asked to write an essay on. Providing some relevant & updated data can garner bonus points to him/her. Let’s have a look at some tips which will help you in qualifying this test.
Read the editorials of a couple of newspapers and try writing them in your own words on a computer. It will also help you in your general awareness preparation. Use a dictionary if you come across a difficult word and understand the context in which the word is used. This will increase your word power as well. In the exam, comply with all the instructions mentioned. Divide your essay into 3-4 paragraphs where the first paragraph should be the introduction and general idea of the topic. Next one/two paragraphs will have the body and the last paragraph will be the conclusion.
