ANSWER KEYS and SOLUTIONS:
1) – 4) | 2) – 2) | 3) – 3) | 4) – 4) | 5) – 2) | 6) – 4) |
7) – 1) | 8) – 3) | 9) – 2) | 10) – 4) |
Solution 1: 4)
Sum of 12 numbers = 12 × 30 = 360
Sum of first 7 numbers = 7 × 24 = 168
Sum of last 4 numbers = 4 × 36 = 144
8th number = 360 – 168 – 144 = 48
Hence, option d.
Solution 2: 2)
Total weight of 25 students = 25 × 50 = 1250 kg
Total weight of 25 students and class teacher together = 26 × 51 = 1326 kg
Weight of the teacher = 1326 – 1250 = 76 kg
Hence, option b.
Solution 3: 3)
Let average price of each storybook bought was Rs. x
Total price of 50 storybooks = Rs. 50x
According to question;
(50x + 76)/(50 + 14) = (x – 1)
50x + 76 = 64x – 64
14x = 140
x = 10
Hence, option c.
Solution 4: 4)
New average = {(25 × 24) – 27 – 48 – 65 + 75 + 32 + 43}/25 = 24.4
Hence, option d.
Solution 5: 2)
Let the average age of each person before replacement be ‘x’ kg
Sum of the ages of 30 persons before replacement = 30x
Sum of the ages of 30 persons after replacement = 30(x + 1)
Let the weight of the new person be ‘y’ kg
According to the question,
30x – 75 + y = 30(x + 1)
Or, y = 30 + 75
Or, y = 105 kg
Hence, option b.
Solution 6: 4)
Correct sum of the ages of 25 boys = (25 × 24) – 18 – 24 + 12 + 20 = 590 years
Required average = 590/25 = 23.6 years
Hence, option d.
Solution 7: 1)
According to question: 21x + 87 = 22 × (x + 1.5)
x = 87 – 33
x = 54
So total runs scored till 22 innings = 55.5 × 22 = 1221
Hence, option a.
Solution 8: 3)
Required average = {(80 × 35) – 55 – 45 + 75 + 85}/65 = 44
Hence, option c.
Solution 9: 2)
Let the four numbers be A, B, C and D respectively.
According to question;
3A + B + C + D = 3 × 348 = 1044 —(1)
3B + C + D + A = 3 × 380 = 1140 —–(2)
3C + D + A + B = 3 × 420 = 1260 ——(3)
3D + A + B + C = 3 × 364 = 1092 ——(4)
Adding (1), (2), (3) and (4), we get
6 × (A + B + C + D) = 4536
A + B + C + D = 756
So, we get A = 144, B = 192, C = 252 and D = 168
Hence, option b.
Solution 10: 4)
The average of a, b, c, d, e, f, g is ‘d’.
And, the average of j, k, l, m, n is ‘l’.
Required average = (7d + 5l)/12
Hence, option d.
