The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) is a statutory body established by the Government of India to regulate and develop the financial services market in the International Financial Services Centres (IFSCs) in India. The IFSCA conducts a competitive examination for recruitment of Grade A officers in various streams such as banking, insurance, securities, etc. Phase II exam of IFSCA Grade A will take place on May 13, 2023, which leaves you with only 3 days for your preparation & revision.
One of the important components of the IFSCA Grade A exam is the essay writing section. In this section, candidates have to write an essay on a given topic within the given word limit. Essay writing will be of 30 marks and the duration will be 60 minutes (for the 3 sections: Précis Writing, Essay Writing and Comprehension). The essay writing section tests the candidates’ ability to express their views clearly, coherently and logically on various issues related to the financial, social & technological sectors. In this article, we will provide some tips and strategies to help you ace the essay writing section of the IFSCA Grade A exam.
Before you start writing, make sure you understand the topic well. Read the topic carefully and identify the keywords, the main idea and the scope of the essay. For example, if the topic is “The role of IFSCs in promoting financial inclusion in India”, you should focus on how IFSCs can contribute to financial inclusion and not deviate from the topic.
Once you have understood the topic, plan your essay by brainstorming some points that you want to include in your essay. You can use a mind map or an outline to organize your thoughts. A good essay should have an introduction, a body and a conclusion. The introduction should introduce the topic and state your statement or main argument. The body should support your statement with relevant facts, examples and arguments. The conclusion should summarize your main points and restate your statement.
After planning your essay, write your essay in clear and concise language. Use simple and short sentences and avoid grammatical and spelling errors. Use transition words and phrases to connect your paragraphs and sentences and maintain a logical flow of ideas. Use appropriate vocabulary and tone to suit the topic and the audience. Avoid using slang, jargon or informal expressions.
After writing your essay, review your essay for any errors or gaps in content. Check if your essay has a clear structure, a strong statement, relevant supporting points, a coherent flow of ideas and a convincing conclusion. Also, check if your essay meets the word limit and follows the format and guidelines given in the IFSCA Grade A official notification.
The best way to improve your essay writing skills is to practice writing essays on various topics related to the financial, social & technological sectors. You can refer to some sample essays or previous year questions papers of the IFSCA Grade A exam for guidance. You can also seek feedback from your peers or mentors on your essays and work on improving your weak areas.
