Question 1

In the question below there are three statements followed by two conclusions I and II. You have to take the three given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the three statements disregarding commonly known facts. 

Statements:  

A few pens are pencils. 

Only pencils are glasses. 

No persons are pens. 

Conclusions: 

I. Some pens being glasses is a possibility. 

II. No persons are pencils. 

a. Only conclusion II follows 

b. Both conclusion I and conclusion II follow 

c. Neither conclusion I nor conclusion II follows

Solution:

Only pencils are glasses means all glasses are pencils and there is no intersection of any element with glasses, so some pens being glasses is a possibility that doesn’t follow.

In the question below there are four statements followed by two conclusions I and II. You have to take the four given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the four statements disregarding commonly known facts.

Some rivers are oceans. 

No oceans are seas. 

All seas are lakes. 

No lakes are rivers. 

Conclusions: 

I. Some lakes being oceans is a possibility.
