Understanding IBPS PO 2020 Mains Exam Pattern

If you’re aware of the exam pattern, you must have noticed that there are 4 sections which are followed by a Letter Writing & Essay Writing test. These sections are Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness, English Language and Data Analysis & Interpretation. The cut-offs of Prelims will not be considered in the final merit list. But the cut-offs of IBPS PO Mains exam will be considered to get shortlisted for interviews as well as for final merit listing. So you need to prepare keeping the fact in mind that you need to clear sectional as well as overall cut-offs.

Mock Tests for a Systematic Preparation

Preparation Tips for IBPS PO 2020 Mains

  • First things first, take a free mock test to assess your current level of preparation.
  • Once you have done the assessment, you can take the corrective actions and put extra efforts to improve on your weak areas.
  • Go slow but learn the concepts properly. Remember, you have 70 days for preparation which is enough to clear this exam provided you study dedicatedly for 6-8 hours in a day. Please keep in mind that IBPS PO Mains checks the conceptual clarity, unlike the Prelims exam which checks the speed.
  • Use relevant study material to clear your basic concepts. Take the help of online videos available if it suits you.
  • Do a lot of practice on the topics you have understood. For eg. if you have learnt the concept of number series, solve at least 100 questions on this topic. Similarly, if you have understood the concept of error spotting, solve at least 100 questions on this topic as well.
  • At the same time, have a complete understanding of the exam pattern. Ensure that you don’t miss out on any important detail.
  • With the help of Mock & Sectional Tests, keep evaluating your performance. Check out the analysis of the questions you skipped/ answered incorrectly.
  • Take due time to look at the analysis you receive once you have submitted the mock/ sectional test.
  • Work on the weak areas as highlighted in the feedback. Check which kinds of questions are consuming the majority of your time.
  • After putting more efforts on your weak areas, you should see an improvement in the highlighted weak areas in the subsequent mock tests.
  • Continue this practice for all the sections. Ensure that you have minimal weak areas across all the sections.

  • Revise all the English grammar rules
  • Reading Comprehension is a very important section. Ensure that you start solving 1 RC on a daily basis.
  • Start reading on a regular basis.

Tips for Data Analysis & Interpretation Section

  • Be aware of IBPS PO 2020 Mains Exam Pattern & Syllabus.
  • Make a schedule and assign 1-2 topics for each day.
  • Ensure that you focus more on those topics in which you are weak.
  • Be thorough with the concepts of averages, ratio, percentage etc. These concepts are often checked in Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency and word problems.
  • Start solving a Data Interpretation Set on a daily basis.

Tips for Reasoning & Computer Aptitude

  • Puzzles & Seating Arrangement are very important in this section. If you face any difficulty in this topic, start solving the given set slowly and take the help of the detailed solution.
  • Whatever is your proficiency level in Puzzles & Seating Arrangement questions, ensure that you solve 1 set on a daily basis for these 70 days.
  • Clarify your concepts on topics like coding-decoding, syllogisms, questions related to direction sense, blood relations etc. These questions are easy to answer and don’t take much time provided you have done enough practice beforehand.
  • When solving questions on data sufficiency, don’t assume any data of your own. Remember: Data Sufficiency questions don’t ask for an answer. You only have to answer whether the given information is sufficient to answer the question or not.
