Basic details of IBPS Clerk Prelims & the Reasoning section
IBPS Clerk Prelims will be held on Dec 8, 2018, leaving only 22 precious days for you to prepare for this exam. We are sure that you would already know this but to remind you once again, there are going to be lakhs of competitors whom you need to outsmart. So we would recommend you to start your preparation asap and not to skip a single day until Dec 8. Today we are providing you with a strategy to ace the reasoning section of this exam. This section has 35 questions of 1 mark each, for which you are given 20 minutes and each incorrectly answered question attracts a negative marking of 0.25 mark.
Time is Money
With only 20 minutes in this section and 35 questions to be evaluated (and some of them to be answered), it’s obviously going to be a herculean task. However, don’t panic, you can always do enough practice beforehand and perform well in this section. 20 minutes for 35 question implies that you get less than 35 seconds for a question. The cut-off last year was 14.5 implying that not all questions need to be solved but at the same time you need to understand that the overall score needs to be maximized and you need to make the most of these 20 minutes. It’s advisable to analyze and pick the easy questions and solve them to maximize your score in the given time. Also, for a decent accuracy avoid making guesses as there is negative marking in place.
Many Topics to Cover…
As the name states, it’s purely a test of logic/reasoning & concentration. Understand the inherent rules of different concepts and practice different questions on the same concept to get a good understanding. Please be informed that a number of banking exams have introduced several types of questions which involve more than one concept and because of this are a bit complicated to solve and takes more time. You need to practice on these questions in controlled situations (such as when taking mock tests) so that you can take on similar questions in the actual exam. The topics which need to be covered are:
- Arrangement & Pattern
- Machine Input Output
- Data Sufficiency
- Blood Relations
- Analytical Decision Making & Verbal Reasoning
- Linear Seating Arrangement
- Circular Seating Arrangement
- Double Lineup
- Ordering & Ranking
- Direction Sense
Practice is the Key
By now you must have got an idea about the vastness of this section and the delicate balance of speed and accuracy you need to maintain while answering this section. We suggest you to start solving mock tests so that you get to know your weak areas and improve upon them. Mock tests give you a detailed explanation of the questions you answered incorrectly so that you don’t repeat the same mistake in the actual exam. What’s more! It also provides you with your position amidst other aspirants who took the test.
That’s all from our side as of now. Wishing you all the best for your preparation!
